ABOUT
Heidi & Seek is run by me, Hayley Lau. Each garment is upcycled and reconstructed using quality second-hand items. I may combine factory discard fabrics as well. I hand-select materials one by one, then design and make each piece with care, expertise, and a unique sense of fun and colour.

Heidi & Seek was created as an alternative to mainstream fast fashion, which encourages high consumption and waste.
Did you know 220 million garbage bags of clothing are sent to landfill each year, in Britain alone?
Did you know garment workers in Australia get paid as low as $3-4 an hour and are given impossible deadlines? This is not legal, but the fear of losing their job disables them from coming forward.
You can help by buying handmade, fair trade, second hand or ethically made clothing instead.

This dress was designed and sewn by me (not a sweatshop worker) using thrifted and/or unwanted materials.

It is one of a kind and I won’t be making any more the same due to limited materials. It’s made from a white and gold striped stretch fabric which is quite sheer, so I’ve lined the dress (minus the sleeves) with a light yellow/green jersey so that you don’t show off your unmentionables while wearing it. The bottom of the dress features a band with contrasting vertical stripes. I’ve also added chunky turquoise cuffs to the sleeves.

This piece is unique, stylish and wearable.

FUNKY GAS STATIONS-WEB URBANIST

crochet-gas-station-1

This gas station in Syracuse, New York is pictured completely covered in multi-colored crochet. It’s an elaborate art installation by crochet artist Jennifer Marsh, created as part of her ‘World Reclamation Art Project’.  Marsh accepted 3×3 foot square submissions from fiber artists all around the world and pieced them together around the gas station.

hat-n-boots-gas-station1

There’s the world’s largest ball of twine, the museum of forks, the House on the Rock – and the Hat n’ Boots gas station. All are great examples of America’s many bizarre roadside attractions, and the Hat n’ Boots may just be one of the most unusual gas stations in the country. Designed by commercial artist Lewis Nasmyth more than 50 years ago, Hat n’ Boots has been restored but is no longer functioning.
